I studied Voice at Boston University School of Fine Arts and Music Pedagogy at the Kodály Musical Training Institute, which was at that time under the umbrella of the New England Conservatory of Music. At the Kodály Institute I studied music pedegogy with an emphasis on the relationship of music and singing to linguistics. After completing the course, the institute hired me to teach in their program in the Boston Public Schools where I taught elementary school children and trained their teachers to use music in the classroom for it’s own sake and to enhance the children’s languange skills.
Because of this background in music, one of my typographical skills is music transcription. Here are some examples. (There are a lot of other examples, but these were chosen because they are not under copyright.)
These are some of the back issues of Susila Dharma International Association’s eNews, published in English, French and Spanish and distributed internationally. They were all formatted both as web pages and for email. (There is one year’s worth here. I published SDIA’s eNews for 6 years.)
I worked as part of the SDIA office team to produce this, and was responsible for layout, some of the editing, assembling the photographs, and for distribution. I inherited the basic design of our publications, but towards the end of my tenure at SDIA we undertook a complete recasting of our “brand”. You can see this in the most recent issues listed here.
Unfortunately, SDIA’s web site was moved to a new server just after I left, so most of the work I did is not available on-line. Here I have reinstalled these back issues on my own web site for my portfolio.
In Context was a magazine published for the 2010 Subud World Congress. I did the design and layout, worked on the editing, and wrote an article for it on Indian agriculture.
